What Did Students Do?

This week, students worked on expanding sentences using the 5Ws. They looked at kernel sentences that had very few details. Then, we discussed how to use the 5Ws to expand upon kernel sentences.

Students used a graphic organizer and sticky notes to plan their ideas. They rearranged these sticky notes into sentences. Some chose to generate their ideas right onto a graphic organizer and then built their sentences using these ideas. They worked in pairs to practice these skills.

Students also had an opportunity to practice this skill by writing about Terry Fox and his Magical Yet. See below for some examples of student work.

Our Home Communication Folders went home this week on Monday. Please take a moment to look at your child's work with them. Please note any celebrations on the sheet provided and return to the school next week.
